The idea of walking the 500 mile French Way of the Camino came to me many years ago. My sister and I talked about doing it the first year after my retirement which would have been 2022. When I developed some serious arthritis in my ankle from a break 25 years ago I gave up on the idea. Then in 2024 the arthritis became serious enough that I knew I would have to have surgery. Two options were presented to me, a fusion or a complete ankle replacement. After a lot of questions and discussion I had just one more question for the doctor, which option gives my the best chance of training for and walking the 500 miles of the Camino. Without hesitation he said replacement. So I scheduled it. On November 20 2024 I underwent a total ankle replacement surgery. I was still walking in a boot when I started searching on line to make plans and reservations for a fall 2025 pilgrimage.
